Okay...my kids HATE doing chores, but they love getting paid! To try to make it more fun, I made this chart:
I have three kids, ages 6, 10 and almost 12. They roll a die and the one who rolls the highest number gets to choose their chore first. The rules are: they have to pick one chore from each column. There are 2 chores that must be done once a week, and one chore that needs to be completed daily.
I made the sign from posterboard and used my Cricut to cut out the words. Scrapbook paper is the backing for each chore, which is held on using velcro.
We made the mistake of hanging it on the door next to the washing machine, so it has a bit of Spray and Wash on it also!
Since my kids can't seem to remember how to complete each chore, I decided to write out explicit instructions. We no longer have to point out each thing they need to redo with each chore, or hear "I don't know what to do!" It is written down. This works, since they are all readers. I will laminate them and keep each sheet in the cleaning bucket, or possibly next to this chart.
We are on a search to find a better way of living on this planet. Whether it be through what we eat, how we clean, or what we do, everyone wants a better life! I am far from a tree hugger (is that politically correct?), but I do believe that there is a better way to live life. Things are so artificial now; I want to learn how to get back to a more natural way of living...without having to sacrifice anything!

Chicken Beef: Crock Pot
So this is my last week of school before summer break (yeah!). I needed something super easy to make, so I made Chicken Beef. My youngest son named it. Oddly, it doesn't contain chicken or beef! It is actually a pork butt.
Brown the pork on all sides in a frying pan (just a minute or so on each side, just to get some color). Then put it in the slow cooker (with a liner!) and add 2 cans of cream of chicken soup (I use a MYO...make your own...soup mix). Cook all day (I did 8 hours). Can be served over rice, or even better...couscous! Yum!
If you have any leftovers, you can shred the pork and heat it up in a pot with some barbecue sauce for some super yummy pulled pork. Serve on hamburger buns.
What 2 or 3 ingredient slow cooker meals do you make?

Welcome!
Welcome!
I have 3 amazing, smart, talented children and a husband exactly like them! I love to cook, craft, decorate frugally, teach fifth grade, and watch baseball (my kids and professional).
I plan to have a blog where everyone feels involved and welcomed. Although I have a slew of interests, (which are always changing...), I would like the underlying theme to be about finding a way to live without using artificiality. I will post about all the crazy plans I have and even include the ones I attempt and maybe finish.
So yeah, I am kind of all over the place...but I have a goal among the mess!
I have headaches...bad ones...that last for days...Over the last few years I have seen more doctors than I would like to admit to. During all those visits, doctors always gave me medication (and I gladly took them). Some thought stress was causing them, and recommended that I exercise (yes, I know I should...I have every excuse possible, in case you need any!). What they wouldn't do was ask what I was eating. It has taken years, but I am finally figuring out that artificial sweeteners are triggering my headaches. So, I cut that...easy, right? NO! I enjoy my sweets...and if I don't eat foods with artificial sweeteners, then I use real sugar...not so good for weight loss...but the headaches are much better!
While limiting my use of artificial sweeteners, I started thinking about all the other artificial things we use in life. It's pretty gross! Cleaners, bug killers, pesticides...so many! And this led to thinking about all the processed foods I feed my family. Why? It is more expensive and not healthy...so why have been doing it? Convenience...but then I remembered, being a Mom is not about convenience, it's about teaching my kids how to live a great, healthy life!
My family tries to live frugally (I am a teacher...that should explain it!), so we are not out buying organic produce & meat, or spending more on pesticides that are better for the environment. Instead, we are trying to figure out how to do it better. Any thoughts? Tough, huh?
So join me while we learn and explore together!
